Olga and Alexey Mitten Pattern

Olga and Alexey Mitten Pattern

Regular price $10.00 Sale

These mittens were designed as a fundraiser for the people of Ukraine. The price is a bit higher than my normal patterns because the purpose of this design is to give humanitarian aid to the people of Ukraine. All proceeds from the sale of this pattern will go to the Red Cross Ukraine. Thank you for joining me! The motifs I used in this mitten were inspired by Ukrainian embroidery. Each symbol has meaning. I read that in Ukraine, embroidery carries with it happiness and protection against anything bad. If ever there was a time the people of Ukraine needed protection against anything bad, it’s now.

In this design, the square represents wellbeing, peace, fortune, perfection, harmony, and order. The diamond represents heaven and earth. The diamond with a dot in the middle represents a sown field—with hope that Ukraine can heal and spring back. The stars represent protection from evil, disease, and weakness. The hearts stand for love, family, and a happy family life. I designed lines of hearts to represent the world standing with Ukraine. The flowers on the cuffs are a nod to the Ukrainian national flower (sunflowers). The palm has a field of flowers with squares representing peace. And lastly, the thumb has a man and woman. I named this mitten Olga and Alexey after our friends in Kyiv. They are just two of 43 million people in crisis in Ukraine. Thank so much supporting the important cause!
