The Pedersdatter Cozy is knit in the round, bottom-up. It’s mostly knit with two colors at once, but there are several rows with three colors at once. The yellow and gold tulips are knit with the light yellow, and then the gold is made entirely with duplicate stitch after the knitting is completed. This makes it so that you don’t have to knit with four colors at once and adds a bit of texture.
I think that it would be grand to knit this with two colors on the red row (perhaps pink and red) so the entire cowl would be a checkerboard of tulips. It’s a quick and happy knit.
NOTE: When I knit with three colors, I hold two colors in my left hand and one in my right.
